# Copyright Position — NOSIBLE

Why NOSIBLE's search-and-snippet model aligns with copyright frameworks worldwide, and why snippets are better than full text.

## Our Position

NOSIBLE operates as a search engine. Our model — crawl, index, return short ranked snippets — is the same model validated by courts worldwide for Google, Bing, and every major web search engine.

## Why We're Compliant

- **Substantial transformation** — building a search index requires substantial technical transformation; it surfaces relationships the original does not
- **Non-substitutable snippets** — we return ranked results with short snippets (256 words or fewer), not a full-text reading experience
- **No reproduction** — we don't reproduce full articles; we index them and send users to the original source
- **robots.txt compliance** — we honor robots.txt, giving publishers control over whether we index their content

## Snippets Are Better Than Full Text

Publishers benefit from a snippet model:
- Traffic is directed to their site, not substituted
- Brand and context come from the publisher's page
- Only the relevant fragment appears — not the whole work
