One type out of 389. A pair can hold many types at once.

Evidence per edge

Each supporting World event adds one dated mention to the edge.

Line width shows mentions, counted across every name Atlas joins to each company. Atlas stores each of its 26 symmetric types, such as competes_with, once per pair.

Timeline of the deal

1. Jan 17, 2022 A backtest runs This test on past data sees no acquisition or ownership edge between the two companies.
2. Jan 18, 2022 Microsoft announces its offer First mentions of `proposed_acquisition_of` and `agreed_to_acquire`.
3. Jan 2022 to Oct 2023 Early headlines call the deal done Thirty run before the close, starting January 18, so `completed_acquisition_of` dates from that day.
4. Oct 13, 2023 The deal closes After almost two years of regulatory review.

Set your own threshold

Our reranker checks every mention against its event and scores it from 0 to 1. Default thresholds sit between 0.30 and 0.80. At 0.90, 83 of the 114 `completed_acquisition_of` mentions stay:

- After the close 42 of 50
- Early headlines 27 of 30
- Misread pending-deal stories 12 of 26
- Other deals or topics 2 of 8

## How edges change

A relationship that changes over time is split into stages. Each stage has its own type, and each type carries one effect.

## How Atlas decides

A relationship enters the graph only when its entity types fit and two models agree. Every mention keeps its scores, so you set your own threshold.

1. 015 typesFind the entitiesWorld V2-preview names the people, organizations, products, geopolitical entities, and locations in each event.
2. 0272 + ontologyChoose candidate typesEvery event gets 72 general types, plus the types mapped from up to three ontology labels at p ≥ 0.5.
3. 03≤ 36 labelsPair entities by typeAtlas tests only entity pairs the catalog allows. Candidate types are packed into prompts of at most 36 labels.
4. 04≥ 0.70ExtractA GLiNER relation model, fine-tuned by NOSIBLE, proposes subject, type, and object triples for each event.
5. 05Per-type cutCheck the evidenceAn edge reranker scores whether the event text supports the statement, against a threshold fitted per type.
6. 06alias_ofClean the namesEach event's short names expand to full names. Self-links are dropped, and symmetric pairs are merged.
7. 071 edgeAggregateMentions with the same subject, type, and object become one edge with counts, dates, and scores.
8. 08normalized_toNormalizeDifferent names for one entity, such as U.S. and United States, are joined when you query the Atlas API.
