How edges change
A relationship that changes over time is split into stages. Each stage has its own type, and each type carries one effect.
- Signals24 typesStates an intention, proposal, request, or threat. On its own, it does not create, change, or end a relationship.proposed_acquisition_of · threatens
- Establishes226 typesStarts or asserts a relationship. It holds, through updates, until a later event pauses or ends it.employed_by · owns · completed_acquisition_of
- Updates41 typesChanges the size, terms, or stage of an existing relationship without ending it, as when a stake rises.increased_equity_stake_in · renewed_contract_with
- Pauses3 typesSuspends a relationship that is expected to resume, such as halted factory production or a paused clinical trial.suspended_production_of
- Ceases93 typesEnds a relationship or reverses an earlier stage, such as a chief executive's resignation or a canceled acquisition.stopped_working_for · cancelled_acquisition_of

How Atlas decides
A relationship enters the graph only when its entity types fit and two models agree. Every mention keeps its scores, so you set your own threshold.
01
5 types
Find the entities
World V2-preview names the people, organizations, products, geopolitical entities, and locations in each event.
02
72 + ontology
Choose candidate types
Every event gets 72 general types, plus the types mapped from up to three ontology labels at p ≥ 0.5.
03
≤ 36 labels
Pair entities by type
Atlas tests only entity pairs the catalog allows. Candidate types are packed into prompts of at most 36 labels.
04
≥ 0.70
Extract
A GLiNER relation model, fine-tuned by NOSIBLE, proposes subject, type, and object triples for each event.
05
Per-type cut
Check the evidence
An edge reranker scores whether the event text supports the statement, against a threshold fitted per type.
06
alias_of
Clean the names
Each event's short names expand to full names. Self-links are dropped, and symmetric pairs are merged.
07
1 edge
Aggregate
Mentions with the same subject, type, and object become one edge with counts, dates, and scores.
08
normalized_to
Normalize
Different names for one entity, such as U.S. and United States, are joined when you query the Atlas API.
